HOUSTON - A new brown leather recliner recently purchased by Harold Lormis proved to be the difference in the Houston Rockets Tuesday night loss to the Charlotte Hornets, 102-97. The new chair apparently is an "unlucky" chair, which Lormis vows never to sit in again whenever he is watching the Rockets on TV.
Lormis was wearing his "lucky" t-shirt from the Rockets Championship year of 1995 during the game. However, Leo Custer back in Hog's Cross North Carolina, was drinking his "lucky" drink, a can of Yoo Hoo with a straw, which effectively offset Lormis' shirt.
"Yeah, I always try to have me a Yoo Hoo during Hornets games."
That left the chair as the game breaker, and it's unluckiness proved to be just the edge the Hornets needed to win the game.
The role the chair would play in the game was unknown to Lormis before the game, as he had just bought it the Saturday prior at Sears and had not sat in it during a Rockets game until Tuesday. Lormis blamed himself saying "I should not have taken the chance, not knowing whether the chair was lucky or in fact unlucky."
"The problem is I don't own any other Fates-influenced furniture, so I guess it did not even occur to me that this new recliner could be unlucky."
Lormis does not plan on returning the unlucky chair at this time as he figures he can just sit in one of his neutral chairs for now. However, since the chair was originally purchased to watch TV in luxurious and relaxing, reclining comfort, Lormis would like to find some way to allow himself to sit in the chair during Rockets games.
"If the Rockets have some essentially meaningless games late in the season I will experiment with different things to see if maybe I can find a second lucky thing to again make essentially negate the chairs unlucky nature. I would really like to be in a net lucky position and enjoy the chair at the same time."
