Is Sports Missing a "Cyber"-Opportunity?

Unfortunately, there seems to be, these days, a dearth of complimentary tickets given to editors of sports related websites.

It seems that sporting franchises in every major league have failed to realize the important relationship the new Internet media plays in bringing their products to the masses. But this new media is not just the future, but also the present and they need to act now and decisively to foster relationships by giving out free tickets.

The amazing growth of sports related websites deserves the attention of the major leagues. Whether the sites are dedicated to seriously reporting and analyzing sports, or obliquely commenting on them in a roundabout and satirical fashion nothing could foster that relationship better then free tickets, tickets and maybe some complimentary hot dogs and sodas. A media guide would be nice as well. In fact, it is pretty much essential.

Objective observers are quick to point how rapidly the world is turning into an instant information, digital age. Yet the MFL, NHL, NBA, and MLB, with their lack of free tickets for those who run sports-related websites seem to not have grasped this yet. While newspapers, television and radio get comped by teams all the time we have yet to see cyber-media get the same treatment.

And those websites that do not focus on any one particular sport or team would seem to be the best candidate for complimentary food, tickets, and limo rides to the games. After all, is there a better way to bring the broad focus of these sites onto your league or team?

We don't think so, and we encourage every team in every league to consider an extensive plan to provide complimentary tickets to the editors of what are soon to be very influential sports-related websites. We fear that if sports does not integrate itself into the new age it will be consumed by it and we all will be the poorer because of it.
