Stanley Cup Prediction
|
This week saw the start of what may be the most valued trophy in all of team sports, the Stanley Cup. And as is always the case it is time for the prognosticators to come out with their picks to win it all. And we are no different (if a little late).
Careful consideration has lead to pick the Red Wings and their experience to win the Cup. We feel that since the Blues demonstrated with the best record in hockey that they are the clear frontrunners and favorites. Not to mention the Avalanche's Cup tested goaltending, which should propel them to the title.
The reason we favor the Sabres to win it all is easy to see when you consider the progress they have made year after year. In Toronto, we see a team that has all the pieces coming together at the right time. It is the Devils disciplined style of play that should have them holding the Cup when all is said and done.
Certainly, it is the Kings mobile, big defense that will make for a happy time in Los Angeles celebrating a title. The San Jose Sharks blend of skill in youth and experience should prove invaluable and give them the edge over the other teams.
And the ability to attack with several weapons from all corners of the ice is why the Flyers are definitely the team the other should be wary of. This is especially true when you have such fierce tough competitors like Roenick and Tkachuk that make the Coyotes the team to beat.
We simply do not see anyone dethroning the current Stanley Cup Champion Dallas Stars. The Penguins have Jagr back and are getting contributions from everyone going in. It seems unlikely, therefore, that anyone will be able to take four games from the Senators.
Size, speed, experience all play a role and we feel the Oilers represent this better then any of the other 15 teams. If you want to find a favorite look for the team that played the best since the All-Star break, the Washington Capitals. And when you have an offensive force of nature like Pavel Bure, then you have to believe this is the Panthers year.
When examined this way the choice is clear.
