Brewers in Boy Band Blow-Up
|
MILWAUKEE, WI - Growing tensions between fans of two popular bands erupted into a full brawl in the Milwaukee Brewers clubhouse on Wednesday. The altercation started when Brewers' shortstop Jose Hernandez took a bat to the stereo system in the team's locker room. Hernandez, a devoted fan of the Backstreet Boys, was not happy after a Brewers loss to the Braves and took out his frustration on the stereo playing the song Bye, Bye, Bye by N'Sync.
That outburst prompted N'Sync devotee and Brewer pitcher to attack Hernandez. The two had to be separated by players and coaches. However, that brawl prompted a second minor skirmish between N'Sync fan Jeremy Burnitz and Backstreet Boys fan Charlie Hayes. The incidents left some minor cuts and bruises on the participants and Hernandez with a sizable knot on his forehead.
"I can't believe they would play that crap after we lost. N'Sync is no where close to the Backstreet Boys," explained Hernandez.
But Bere was having none of that, "N'Sync can dance circles around those pretty boys in Backstreet. We got to listen to that crappy song of theirs, I Want It That Way. That was supposed to pump us up. Yeah, worked real good."
Bere then showed off a classic step over front shoulder head bob dance maneuver popular with N'Sync. "It's looks better when you got five guys doing it, but I mean Backstreet Boys wish they could pull that off."
The Brewer clubhouse has been simmering all summer as players took sides in the growing boy band debate. A brief resolution seemed to be received when it was determined that one band would be played before games and another after. But that only created more frustration.
"I just get so angry when I hear that N'Sync crap. Give me some I Want it That Way or Everybody. I guess the loss just got to me," said Hernandez. "But the fact is that if I were a fourteen year old girl I would find Backstreet Boys much hotter then N'Sync."
The club declined comment but said that disciplinary action would be taken internally. However Manager Davey Lopes did say, "I don't really understand. When I played it was Leif Garret and Andy Gibb, but we never got into an argument over it."
