ESPN Needs A New Channel
|
As much as we love the ESPN family of channels there is one we are getting sick of. That is ESPN Classic. This channel shows us nothing but re-runs and sporting events that have already happened.
How exciting can it be when I already know that Kirk Gibson hits a home run in the bottom of the ninth. Am I supposed to watch the whole game before I get to the shocking conclusion of Christian Laettner hitting a last second shot?
What we really need from ESPN is ESPN Future. We need a channel that will show us those sporting events that haven't happened yet.
Can you imagine how much more exciting it would be to see the next Super Bowl today? Or who wins the 2002 Kentucky Derby?
While we appreciate the difficulty in this endeavor, ESPN has consistently shown itself to be on the cutting edge of sports media and entertainment. Surely there is a market for pre-runs and just like any problem, if you throw enough money at it then certainly a solution can be found.
Sure I like the occasional real-time football or baseball game, but I would be glued to my TV if they showed me the 2000 US Open even just a few weeks before it happened. And it isn't just me, I am sure most sports fans would find value in being able to watch yet-to-happen sporting events.
The future is now, ESPN. Make it happen.
