Lance Armstrong is a Bad Role Model
|
Cancer is one of the most horrible curses that anyone can be faced with. Yet, when Lance Armstrong overcomes testicular cancer to win the Tour de France what are we supposed to tell our kids?
That just because Armstrong was able to beat cancer so can you?
There is a very real concern that when someone like Lance Armstrong has success it only encourages others to try and emulate their heroes. And in this case we are concerned that the young impressionable minds might think it fashionable to get testicular cancer. Maybe they see that Lance Armstrong was able to become a Tour de France Champion after he had gotten cancer.
But this is the wrong message to send to kids. Kids should not be encouraged to try and get testicular cancer. They need to know that Lance Armstrong is an exception and that they are more likely to succeed in life if they try to avoid such unhealthy choices as getting cancer.
The fact is that very few people survive cancer to become the Tour de France champion. We don't blame Lance Armstrong. We just feel that more responsibility needs to be taken by everyone to keep our kids safe from cancer's evil clutches
