Side Effects of The Chainsmokers

Billboard recently chatted with the dance duo, ‘The Chainsmokers.’ On July 27, the duo, comprised of Alex Pall and Drew Taggart released a new single, “Side Effects” that Billboard called, “another ridiculously catchy summer anthem.” The other ‘ ridiculously catchy summer anthem’ they are talking about is ‘Closer,’ which was released in the summer of 2016.

When asked about the inspiration for “Side Effects” and its feel that differs from recent releases, Taggart said, “It’s definitely funky…and its summertime, and we feel like we really wanted to make an upbeat summertime record.”

“Side Effects” was a collaboration with Emily Warren, a frequent collaborator on ‘The Chainsmokers’ projects. Pall coyly eluded to Warren having dirt on them is the reason they work with her, but genuinely referred to her as one of their favorite human beings. He is excited that she is featured on this record, he hopes the world loves it because its time they know who she is.

‘The Chainsmokers’ originally formed in New York City in 2012 as a dance duo comprising Alex Pall and Rhett Bixler. Pall met Drew Taggart through Chainsmokers’ manager Adam Alpert. Upon Bixler’s departure from the duo, Taggart to New York to work Pall. The new duo worked with Priyanka Chopra, an Indian singer, and actress, on their first single in 2012. That single, Erase,” was released through Beatport, an online dance community, in November, and in hit iTunes in December.

Talking about the future of ‘The Chainsmokers,’ Taggart said, “I know that we want to keep putting out tons of music. We love the process of everything — we love writing, and we love expressing ourselves.” He also said that they would be putting out more records very soon, but was not able to share a specific date. He ended by saying that ‘Side Effects’ is going to rock and he hopes it will be the song of the summer.
