Tape Delayed Olympic Fever Starting to Build
"Can't wait to wait"

The American sporting public is eagerly awaiting the upcoming Olympic wait.

"I can't wait to wait!" gushed Olympic enthusiast Michelle Redmond or Potomac, Delaware.

"I'm especially looking forward to avoiding the TV news and not logging on my computer and not listening to the radio for fear of hearing who has won the women's long jump that happened almost a full day in advance. I expect my days will be filed with staring and waiting."

This time the Summer Olympics will be held in Sydney, Australia in about a month. On the other side of the globe, Sydney is fourteen hours ahead of the United States East Coast. So when it is prime time in the U.S. it will still be quite early in the morning in Australia.

This time difference has led NBC to decide not to show any of the Olympics live in the U.S. The fact that everything will be shown delayed on tape has not lessened the anticipation for most.

"What could be more exciting then not knowing the outcome of an event that already happened? i mean assuming I didn't hearit on the radio or TV or come accross it while surfing online," asked Perry Whitkenstein. "It's like the best of Classic Sports Network without all that crappy, grainy footage."

Not everyone is happy with the tape delayed Olympics.

"It think it stinks. Can't we make do all the important stuff early in the morning. I mean aren't we America, don't we get to say how this all goes down," grumbled an unhappy Marvin Butler of Newport, Rhode Island. "Those damn Europeans are always screwing us."

Others are worried the time change might affect our athletes.

"How can we possible win the track and field events if those Austrians get a fourteen hour head start? How is that fair?" worried Betsy Dillinger, who added "What? I said Australians. I'm not stupid."

But these few dissenting opinions aside there seems to be little flagging the enthusiasm of most Americans - assuming they didn't accidentally hear the result of their favorite event in the car on the way home or while surfing the Internet or maybe while doing the dishes while leaving the TV on in the background - as they get ready to cheer their athletes on in events that already happened.
